Pukekohe Classic Festival 2006

The 2006 Pukekohe Classic Festival was billed as a sidecar spectacular and it certainly was that, but the highlight for many was the appearance of Peter Williams, Norman White and the 1972 JPN Norton F750 racer. NSWNOC's founding president and Seeley Commando and Carey Velocette racer took both bikes over to the event ably assisted by Combat and Michael in the 'pits'. I was privileged to be allowed to tag along and had the time of my life. The Seeley put in some good laps and was looking very strong during Friday practice. Come Saturday the bike would not start. Despite working through the day and night the bike refused to run. The Carey Velocette needed clutch adjustment, which is a black art that requires you to read the handbook in a mirror, before it could be raced. After getting the clutch working, Col had the 'exciting' experience of having a rear brake shoe crack, and lock up the rear wheel. The rear brake was hammered back into shape and a secondhand brake shoe was 'borrowed' and the bike was ready to race on Sunday.

Thanks to the NZCMRR for organising such a great event and Norton Racing for bringing Peter Williams Norman White and the JPN Norton down under. See the NZCMRR site for results and photos and Norton Racing for more info about Peter Willams, Norman White and the JPN Norton F750 racer.
