Norton Day 2006

It was a fine spring day for the 2006 NOCNSW Day at Gannon's Park, Peakhurst . By the time I arrived the tent was pitched, the regalia was on display and a dozen bikes were parked up and on show. Within the hour there were 5 times as many bikes on display with familiar faces still riding in.

Most of the Nortons this year were Commandos but there was a huge variety from a show room perfect fastback to daily riders to a JPN special. Never realised how practical that rear fairing is, its a great place to store your lunch.

As usual the Norton Day was a club plated event, bikes had been ridden to the show from all directions. That evening Mago sent this email in to the Made in England list and I've stolen it because its a great read.

"Congratulations on the NOCNSW for a great day out at this years Norton Day! I had a great trip up from Ulladulla, leaving at 6.30am and taking the scenic route via the new SeaCliff bridge on Lawrence Hargrave Drive......you know the road! Preparation for the trip involved picking up tool box lid and tools off the highway, renew float needle in the left hand carb and a going over with a spanner, finding a couple of loose nuts. The run through the Royal National Park was funtastic..I haven't been that way since I picked up my first 650 Matchy from a bloke in Bundeena back in 1985.. what a hoot, twisty roads, no sunny davisons, no cars, just me , me bike and the cedar, turpentine and cabbage palm trees....beautiful!!!!
Gets to Lugarno ....great to catch up with everyone, check out the bikes, cars and everything else....before I know it, its time to go. I went home the way I came and I couldn't believe it ...no traffic whatsoever through the national park... I had a ball!! The highlight of the trip home was at Nowra....came up through the middle of a line of cars to get to the front, at the set of lights at Greenwell Pt. Road ..pulls along side two guys on a CBRR 1000, snigger snigger... lights change...bbbrraappp of we go!!! Fair dinkum folks I had him in first!!!! Then I had him in second and just as I was changing into third he sorta just mono'd past me and disappeared like Dr Who's telephone box.... whoosh!!! Ya gotta love these pommy bikes .....not the fastest but they sure are the funest!!!!!!

Apologies if I didn't photograph all the bikes. I was in too much of a rush to get back to watch the Australian MotoGP.
