Sydney Norton Day 2004

arr cammy es2 fair

Earlier this year we were invited to hold our Norton Day at Gannons Park as part of the Lugamo Lions Club Annual Picnic Day. We didn't know what to expect but we decided to go with it and according to the comments from those there we made the right decision.
A couple of days before Bob was asking whether there would be plenty of parking for trailers. I responded that there should be plenty in the surrounding streets. As I putted down Forrest Rd near the park I couldn't help but notice there were heaps of cars already parked in the streets. Bob would not be pleased with me! I pulled into Gannons Park and off to the right there was a large area set aside for trailer parking- I was saved.
The Lions Club had erected a tent for us to sell regalia etc. and donated three trophies. We had a large area to display our bikes with lots of the general public passing by. Some parts of Sydney got a bit of rain but we were blessed with a dry warm day, lots to see and do with food stalls, carnival rides, dancing girls (I'm not kidding), car club displays, a dog show. You name it we had it and there were thousands of people there. If we go back next year you can bring the wife & kids (or not) and know they won't get bored with Just bike talk. As usual the standard of bikes on display was very high. One bloke, who lives locally, brought several bikes including the "Best Non Norton" a 1912 Triumph and to cap it off he rode them all to the show. The boys from Goulburn had a worthwhile trip also taking out a trophy and the Hunter crew turned up in force, Reddo went on a shopping spree in the regalia tent, Bob slacked out and didn't bring the trailer opting to ride his Norton instead. Keep it up Bob and you'll get the pink purse!
We kept it pretty low key this year, if we go back next year we will know what to expect and with a bit more advertising we can get a lot more bikes there.
Just to finish off what had been a great day I got a flat tyre about 4 km from home and not a garage in sight. It was a very slow 4 klm ride home with the back end wobbling every time I hit a bump. This would start the front end. Just imagine a bright yellow Norton wobbling down the main street of Earlwood doing about 10 mph, the rider with legs out trying to keep it all under control. I was glad to get home

This 350cc Navigator purred when it rode in. The owner from the Pittwater Motor Enthusiasts Club bought it at the Nabiac Motor Museum when he sold his 1963 Ambassador. He fixed up the motor and now goes well easily reaching 60 mph. The front end is off a Dominator. He rides it on club runs

Alan’s 1928 Triumph won the best Non Norton, there was a good display of vintage bikes next door to the Nortons on the day.
